Top Ten Highest Mountain Peaks in the Philippines

1. Mt. Apo
Mount Apo is a solfataric, potentially- active volcano located in the south central part of Mindanao. It is the highest point in the country and has an elevation of 9,692 feet (2,954 meters above sea level). Apo, which means "ancestor" and to lots of mountaineer this mountain is the grandfather of all the mountains within the country. This is a flat-topped mountain with three peaks and is capped by a 500-meter-wide (1,600 ft) volcanic crater containing a small crater lake. The date of its most recent eruption is unknown, and none are verified in historical times. The amazing Mt. Apo is located in between of Region XI and Region XII. This mountain is also a National Park, established in 1936, has an area of 199,819 acres (80,864 hectares) covering some part of three cities of Davao, Kidapawan and Digos.

2. Mt. Dulang-dulang
Mount Dulang-dulang, known for the mountaineering community as "D2." Considered as the chief among the high elevation peaks in the Kitanglad Mountain Range. D2 is located in the nortsituated in Lantapan, Bukidnon. With the elevation of 9,639 ft (2,938 metres above sea level) and recognized as the second highest mountain of the Philippines. The glorious D2 is sacred to the local residents from various people tribes within the mountain. Some of the documented sightings of animals include bats, squirrels, monkeys, Philippine eagle, flying lemurs, and wild boars. Dulang-Dulang is rich in pine trees and grassland, making it one of the most magnificent forests in the country.

Mount Pulag (or Mount Pulog) is the third highest mountain in the Philippines. It is Luzon’s highest peak at 9,587 ft (2,922 meters above sea level). The borders between the provinces of Benguet, Ifugao, and Nueva Vizcaya meet at the mountain's peak.On February 20, 1987, a large part of the mountain was designated as a National Park with Proclamation No. 75. This act aims to preserve the environment around the mountain due to threats from increased development such as conversion to agricultural lands, timber production, hunting, and increased tourism.

4. Mt. Kitanglad
Mt. Kitanglad is the home of the country’s oldest cultural communities– the Bukidnons, Higaonons, and Talaandigs. The name "Kitanglad" was derived from a legend that there was once a great flood that submerged the native lands of Bukidnon and only the tip of the mountain, the size of a "tanglad" (lemon grass), remained visible ("kita" in Visayan). It said to be the fourth highest mountain in the country with the elevation of 9,511 ft. (2,899 meters above sea level). The mountain range of Kitanglad encompasses Malaybalay City and the municipalities of Lantapan, Impasug-ong, Sumilao, and Libona.

5. Mt. Kalatungan
Situated in the central part of Bukidnon, Mt. Kalatungan comprises an estimated area of 35,812.52 hectares. Drawn by the lure of overwhelming slope and ledges, this is where nature makes an eloquent declaration of beauty and power. Sites and rock abundant, wildlife thrives on native grasslands, and spectacular views of the plains offer an escape from the rush of the highway. Mount Kalatungan, a potentially active volcano, also known as Catatungan is the sixth highest mountain in the Philippines, with an elevation of 9,265 ft (2,824 meters above sea level) and is classified as a stratovolcano. It is one of the several high elevation peaks in the Kalatungan Mountain Range in Bukidnon province on the island of Mindanao.

6. Mt. Tabayoc
Mt. Tabayoc is in Kabayan, Benguet, is the second highest mountain in Luzon. This mountain is known to the locals as Tabayac and Tabeyoc but for the Philippine mountaineering community we call it as Tabayoc. And we refer to the lake fronting it as Tabeo. Mt Tabayoc is still part of Mt Pulag National Park with elevation of 9,332ft (2842meters above sea level). This frestine mountain is part of the broad responsibility of Protected Area Superintendept of Mt. Pulag National Park. In the vicinity of Mt Tabayoc four lakes name, Tabeo, Incolos, Letep-ngapos and Ambulalacao are the best side trip of the climb. .

7. Mt. Piapayungan (Ragang)
Mount Piapayungan is also called Mt. Ragand and Blue Mountain by the local people. It is a stratovolcano and said to be the the most active volcano on Mindanao, and is part of a string of volcanoes in what volcanologists call the Central Mindanao Arc. Mount Piapayungan is located on the boundary of the provinces of Lanao del Sur and Cotabato in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. The location of the mountain is said to be the most consideration of being unvisited mountain destinataion. This mountain towering the elevation of 9,236 ft (2,815 metres above sea level) and a base diameter of 32 km (20 mi).

8. Mt. Maagnaw
Considered part of the high elevation peaks in the Kitanglad Mountain Range. D2 is located in the nortsituated in Lantapan, Bukidnon. With the elevation of 8,994ft (2742 meters above sea level). This mountain is sacred to the local residents from various people tribes within the mountain. Some of the documented sightings of animals. Mt. Maagnaw's mossy forest is a must experience.

9. Mt. Singakalca (Mt. Timbak)
Mount Timba (8950 fasl), the third highest mountain in Luzon, is also known as Mt Singacalsa (an Ibaloi term which refers to a musical instrument similar to gangsa or the local gong). The veracity of this information is yet to be verified. Mountaineers have learned to call it Mt Timbak just like how it is popularly called by the locals. The main attractions of the mountain are the marvelous sea of clouds at sunset, the mummies and the kind locals that inhabit the slopes of the mountain. The western vista also affords a breath-taking view of the Atok vegetable terrace complex which could rival the rice terraces of Banaue.

10. Mt. Amuyao
Mount Amuyao has an elevation height of 2, 862 meters above sea level. It’s location is situated between the boundaries of Barlig Mt. Province and Banaue Ifugao Province. The Mountain is an early hunting ground of the ancestors of Barlig and has claimed their ancestral rights over this forest. This is officially under the jurisdiction of the Mountain Province area. This mountain is covered by thick forest, mingled by flora and fauna. Up to this date the height echoes an enchanting sound and the clouds displays it’s mysterious beauty while overlooking the people of Barlig. At top summit of the mountain you can see provinces of Benguet (W), Abra (WNW), Kalinga (N), Cagayan (NE), Isabela (E), and Ifugao (S). This mountain also offers breathtaking sunsets, sunrises, and the sea of clouds in the sapphire sky.
